Freedom from Sexual Violence

Event: An Introduction to Sources of Strength and RSVP2 – Intro Webinar

Mar
14

Hello, my name is Kevin Douglas and I’m the School Recruitment and Data Collections coordinator at the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment in the Prevention Services Division. We are excited to share with you our project: Researching Sexual Violence and Prevention using Resiliency, Strengths, Virality, & Protective Factors (RSVP2). This project will support the implementation of the Sources of Strength program across 24 schools in Colorado over the next four years. Sources of Strength is an evidence-based youth health promotion and suicide prevention program that seeks to utilize the power of “Peer Leaders” to influence positive social norms around student-adult relationships, school connectedness, and positive coping skills.

We were interested in seeing if your school or organization would be able to help with dispersing our recruitment documents to your contacts and any school/district that may be interested in our study. To give you a little background on the project. We have teamed up with Sources of Strength Inc., the University of Rochester, and the University of Florida to evaluate the Sources of Strength program. We will be implementing Sources of Strength in 24 schools throughout Colorado. The grant funding from the Center for Disease Control provides the opportunity to evaluate Sources in new ways. This research grant will determine how positive changes in youth-adult connections and healthy coping norms contribute to reducing interpersonal and health problems among students including sexual harassment and violence, bullying, depression symptoms, and suicidal ideation.

Please let me know if you would be interested in meeting up or learning more about this project. A webinar: An Introduction to Sources of Strength and RSVP2 will be available on 3/14/2017 at 3:30 p.m. to learn more about the Sources of Strength program and how our project will be implemented in the schools. I’ve attached an invitation for the schools, an application to apply to participate in the project, the survey tool, and a brief questionnaire. Schools must return a completed application and questionnaire by 4/12/2017 in order to be considered for the study.  Please feel free to contact Kevin Douglas with any questions.
