Thursday, August 4, 2016 / 12pm – 1:30pm
Content: The prosecutor plays a central role in a well-functioning coordinated community response to domestic violence, however many people outside of the prosecutor’s office, including advocates and victims, may have an inaccurate perception of that role and its limitations. In this webinar, domestic violence program executive director Mary Ingham will discuss the role of the community-based advocate working within the criminal system, and how advocates can work with victims to ensure that their needs are being addressed, while also keeping victims’ expectations of the criminal process reasonable. Mary Ingham, along with former prosecutor Sandi Tibbetts Murphy will share the ethical duties and other responsibilities of prosecutors and how those guide the ways in which prosecutors do their work.
Presenters: Mary Ingham, Executive Director, Crisis Intervention Service, Mason City, IA and Sandra Tibbetts Murphy, Legal & Policy Advisor, BWJP
