Even though we know that 1 in 6 men will be a victim of sexual violence in their lifetime and we know that in order to prevent this type of violence we must engage men in our conversations, there is still a lot to do when it comes to including men in this work. Our next webinar will be presented by one of these males who is actively on the ground doing the work with under-served populations, Spanish speaking survivors. This webinar will discuss the benefits and the hurdles that can occur when bringing men into the anti-sexual violence movement. Participants will gain a better understanding of how having a male advocate on staff can contribute to their work and how to collaborate with folks who may not value a male presence in this work.
“The work in the anti-sexual abuse field is very important. I want to say that not all men can do this work. I have had the fortune and opportunity to work in these issues, (it has) not been easy. I believe I did more than people could imagine because of the (typical male) stereotype in our society.” Rodolfo Martinez-Puentes
This webinar is part 1 of a 2 part series. Part 2 will be presented entirely in Spanish and would be ideal for bi-lingual advocates and survivors. Please stay tuned for more information as it becomes available.
