Interpreting is a real profession, with its own code of ethics, protocol and standards, with the purpose to facilitate access to services for individuals that do not speak the language of service. Most think that it is as easy as speaking another language. It’s not. Speaking two or more languages does not make an interpreter, the same way as helping a child with homework does not make a teacher.

In this workshop, you will learn the language access policy framework at the foundation of interpreting services, the boundaries and the limitations of the role of the interpreter and why ethical principles such as accuracy, confidentiality and impartiality are at the heart of an interpreter’s integrity, especially when working in situations with abuse, trauma and mental health challenges.

Presented by Giovanna Carriero-Contreras, CEO & Founder of Cesco Linguistic Services
