Civil system vs. Criminal system

Learning objectives: Attendees will be provided an overview of what legal issues fall within the civil system and what issues fall within the criminal system. We will discuss the different roles within each system and what a victim/survivor can expect. We will also integrate an overview of the VRA in Colorado. Attendees will leave with a deeper understanding of how to help a victim/survivor navigate these systems and how to provide a robust array of options without providing legal advice.
Privacy and Safety
February 15th from 12 – 1:30pm

Learning objectives: Attendees will learn about the various rights afforded to victims/survivors as they navigate the criminal justice system. Issues related to privacy will be discussed. We will discuss confidentiality, releases of information/waivers, who has the right to waive privilege/confidentiality, etc. We will also give practical tips for how advocates can offer support to victims/survivors as they make important decisions about their private information.
