The Investigator reports to the Chief Operating Officer and assists in implementing the SafeSport Policies and Procedures for the U.S. Olympic Movement. The Investigator assists in resolving complaints of emotional, physical and sexual misconduct and will work closely with the Response and Resolution Office Policies noted above to conduct investigations of complaints filed against individuals within the Office’s jurisdiction. The Investigator acts as a neutral party in the investigation and provides a detailed, unbiased report regarding the findings of the investigation.



  • Identify policies relevant to complaint
  • Exercise judgment regarding the resolution of complaints, including informal resolution and formal investigation
  • Conduct investigations into complaints including identifying and interviewing parties; identifying, gathering, and assessing information relevant to the investigation; and applying relevant policies, making findings of fact, and recommending sanctions in individual cases
  • Actively strive to foster and maintain a climate that is supportive of athletes and respectful of difference
  • Assist in developing education and awareness modules for sport organizations and their constituents concerning respect and inclusion and misconduct prevention
  • Continuously identify and integrate best practices in the misconduct investigation arena into knowledge base and practice; stay up-to-date with current movements in the field of misconduct investigations by participating in conferences, workshops, reviewing current literature and research, etc.
  • Build relationships with colleagues at peer institutions
  • Other duties as assigned



  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of professional experience conducting investigations



  • Juris Doctorate degree or Master’s degree
  • Experience working with athletes
  • Experience investigating cases of sexual misconduct
  • Knowledge of complexities surrounding investigations in a sport setting



  • Excellent judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing and investigation
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations
  • Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity
  • Skill in writing concise, logical, analytical reports to convey complex issues
  • Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress
  • Strong and effective interpersonal skills; the ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs
  • Ability to work as part of a team to resolve complaints in a neutral and sensitive manner
  • Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents to evaluate their impact on Center policy and procedures

  • Office environment in multi-story building on multi-building site
  • Some night and weekend work hours
  • Some overnight travel required
