A CCASA membership offers tangible benefits such as technical assistance, training, education materials, current news updates as well as opportunities and resources for effecting public policy changes to protect survivors and prevent sexual assault. Additionally, CCASA offers the critical component of building bridges of collaboration between those who work directly with survivors and allies alike in order to strengthen the collective voices of those working together to influence the movement toward freedom from sexual violence in Colorado.

Main areas of membership services:

Community Building/Networking: CCASA members are able to build community collaborations between themselves and other allies through various networking opportunities provided by CCASA. Trainings, seminars and meetings are hosted by CCASA throughout the year in order to bring together all of our members who are committed to making the vision of a society free from sexual violence a reality. The various events hosted by CCASA provide members the opportunity to collaborate and learn strategies for working together as a collective voice to build a strong base in the movement toward freedom from sexual violence in Colorado. CCASA hosts statewide membership meetings biannually in June (Denver-metro region) and in October (out-of-metro location). In addition, Regional Representatives and CCASA staffs conduct periodic meetings within their Colorado regions to address local issues and concerns. The statewide and regional membership meetings encourage program sharing, networking and collaboration between agencies and individuals. Prevention Education seminars are designed for those individuals who work closely with youth to prevent sexual assault. Finally, CCASA offers a Listserv which provides a place for members to post information, requests and questions.

Public Policy: CCASA also works to address public policy issues which affect survivors of sexual assault on both the state and national level. CCASA updates members on public policy issues related to sexual assault through various means including legislative updates and highlights email updates and our Listserv. CCASA representatives testify on bills and educate lawmakers concerning the Coalition’s perspective on sexual violence in Colorado. Members can participate in the Public Policy committee where public policy issues related to sexual assault are discussed and evaluated with lobbyists, Board Members, and other community members. Each region’s representative is responsible for communicating legislative and public policy needs of its members to the CCASA Public Policy Committee.

Training: CCASA provides training on a variety of topics for members. CCASA responds to the training requests presented by members. Trainings typically focus on such topics as sexual assault prevention, working with the media, and forensic evidence collection. The Coalition offers ongoing technical assistance to members upon request such as current statistics, literature, funding information, and resource materials.

Publications: CCASA offers periodic publications and provides publications on specialty topics related to sexual assault. The periodic publications are the quarterly newsletter (The CCASA Connection), electronic updates providing information about seminars, trainings and legislative updates, and the CCASA News Digest (which combines news stories of Sexual Assault from around the state). Specialty publications that are currently available include the CCASA Sexual Assault Advocacy and Crisis Line Training Guide, the Sexual Assault Forensic Evidence Collection Protocol, the Drug-Facilitated Sexual Assault brochure, and Towards Healing and Justice: A Handbook for Survivors of Sexual Assault. There is also a community development manual for SANE programs.
