Raana Simmons

Raana Simmons

Director of Public Affairs

Raana joined CCASA in November 2015. She also serves on the policy advisory committee for the National Alliance to End Sexual Violence. Her experience includes working for a variety of community-based organizations as a prevention educator, community organizer, awareness campaign director, and direct services advocate in the field of anti-violence. Prior to joining CCASA, she managed a sexual assault center serving both rural and urban counties of West Central Florida where she established new partnerships within community to coordinate survivor-centered services emphasizing care for marginalized and historically disenfranchised groups. As an indigenous person, Raana is guided by ancient wisdoms that value collective decision-making, relationships, and responsible stewardship. She brings these values to her work by prioritizing extensive and engaged stakeholder processes that incorporate all voices – especially those at the intersections of race, gender, and socio-economic status. Raana believes the keystone of anti-violence work is found in depth of connection to community, where we all act as guardians in the legacy-building of a safer, fairer, and more just future. Raana holds a BS in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations from the University of North Florida, and an MPA with a concentration in Gender-Based Violence from the University of Colorado-Denver.
