Join us for our annual Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) Kick-Off! We know that one month alone isn’t enough to solve the serious and widespread issue of sexual violence. However, the attention April generates is an opportunity to energize and expand prevention efforts throughout the year. We are excited to showcase the amazing work of our programs, community advocates, and allies with an awards ceremony, and more!

Event Details
Sexual violence and resulting trauma are a body-based experience, therefore, cognitive oriented therapies can only support healing to a certain point. Somatic, mindfulness-based and experiential therapies have been found to be effective in mitigating many of the challenging symptoms resulting from the deep neurological mapping of this experience.
This presentation will introduce you to one of these experiential therapies; Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP), where horses are partnered with facilitators in the healing process. You will learn the why and how horses are such powerful agents of healing for sexual violence. The presenters apply the current theories of bio/neuro/psycho/social to working with these amazing beings. Supportive modalities of expressive arts and current mindfulness-based practices will also be explored.
Presenters:
Jackie Ashley LPC, BC-DMT, ACS, ESMHL is the owner of Wild At Heart LLC. She has been offering Equine Facilitated Therapy to women with sexual trauma for nearly 2 decades. She is a Somatic and Expressive Arts therapist and teaches Mindfulness and Meditation at Naropa University.
Nadine M Doughty, PsyC is a psychologist candidate practicing at The Center for Cognitive Health Colorado in Colorado Springs since 2020. Nadine experienced and trained in EFP during grad school and completed her dissertation on the topic of women who have experienced sexual trauma and participated in EFP as part of their healing process.
This training was supported by Grant No. 2020-WF-AX-0043, 15JOVW-21-GG-00555-STOP, and 15JOVW-22-GG-00412-STOP awarded by the state administering office for the Office on Violence Against Women, U.S. Department of Justice’s STOP Formula Grant Program. The opinions, findings, conclusions, and recommendations expressed in this training are those of the author(s) and do not necessarily reflect the views of the state or the U.S. Department of Justice.
