Many trauma victims experience the reporting system as intrusive and judgmental. They are required to recount in detail and with absolute consistency the entire incident. The common approach to victims by law enforcement and victim advocate personnel has not been focused on how trauma impacts the brain, victim behaviors, and memory. There is a great deal of neuroscience research on why victims’ memories can have gaps and inconsistencies, and yet still be very reliable in other, essential respects. Webinar participants will learn science-based techniques to maximize trauma victims’ recall, and enhance the investigative and advocacy process by reducing the potential for false information, reducing victim recantations, and increasing victim cooperation and participation by feeling safe and understood.
