We would like to take a moment to invite you to participate in a free upcoming training event that we are co-hosting, along with the Colorado Anti-Violence Program. For the past few years, CAVP has been using this full-day training model across the state with great results. CAVP would like to host one specifically with WINGS and our local partners such as yourselves to build groups capacity to increase access, safety and support for LGBTQ survivors of violence.
A full-day workshop allows groups who are naturally working together either regionally or on similar issues to address our shared work in terms of services to LGBTQ survivors experiencing violence and/or homelessness. With the opportunity to go through the same training together, everyone’s shared work becomes stronger and can strengthen our collaborative and referral work.
During this full-day training, we will cover the following competency areas:
develop strategies for institutionalizing increased support and resources for LGBTQ survivors accessing our services
understanding of appropriate language and terminology, the difference between biological sex, gender identity, and sexual orientation.
understanding root causes of transphobia and violence affecting trans* community
understand, identify and address barriers trans* community face when accessing services
gain skills necessary to build allies within and outside of their organization to support systemic change.
create a personalized action plan to identify short term and long term changes to bring back to their organization
We have a limited number of spots available since there is a maximum of 25 participants. There is no cost to you for participation; CAVP is providing this training for free and all materials/handouts are included. If you would like to attend this training, please contact Kathleen Ferrick at firstname.lastname@example.org
