Farm Workers in Rural Colorado

Description: This webinar will focus on migrant farm workers in rural Colorado, labor trafficking stories, sexual violence among migrant workers, sheepherders in Colorado, and H2A workers. The Project Protect Promotora Network, which began during the COVID-19 pandemic to protect essential agriculture workers and exists today as a sustainable force to support and advance the well-being of these agricultural workers and their families, will also be discussed.

Presenters: Angeles Mendez, Regional Director, Project Protect Food Systems and Chair, Western Colorado Migrant & Rural Coalition. Angeles is also Volunteer Food Coordinator for the Food Bank of the Rockies and serves on the Boards of the Delta Health Foundation and Fort Uncompahgre. Additionally, she operates Tsanda Medical Interpreting Services. Coming from a multi-generational family of farm workers, she is passionate about the lives of rural farm workers. Jenifer Rodriguez, Managing Attorney, Migrant Farm Worker Division Colorado Legal Services. Jenifer manages a team that provides legal support to farmworkers on a wide range of issues, including wage theft, workplace injuries, sexual harassment, immigration, and human trafficking.
