Stalking is a prevalent, dangerous, and often misunderstood crime. This webinar explores the dynamics of stalking, focusing on the highly contextual nature of the crime by discussing common tactics and technologies used by perpetrators, as well at the co-occurrence of stalking with domestic and sexual violence. This session also covers strategies for responding to stalking in rural communities and pro-active steps to take to enhance a coordinated response to stalking across professional disciplines.
Objectives:
By the end of this presentation, participants will be better able to:
- Identify stalking behaviors and dynamics
- Recognize the intersection of stalking with other crimes, including sexual assault
- Apply strategies for working with victims of stalking, specifically in rural settings
- Recognize the necessity of addressing stalking
Presenter:
Julia Holtemeyer (MPP) is the Resource & Training Specialist for the Stalking Prevention, Awareness, and Resource Center (SPARC), an AEquitas initiative. With over a decade of experience in anti-violence work, Julia specializes in providing training, technical assistance, and resource development to enhance multidisciplinary responses to stalking and other forms of gender-based violence. Her career spans roles in global health, criminal justice, and law enforcement training, including her work with the International Association of Chiefs of Police on addressing gender bias and improving responses to violence against women. Julia holds a BA in Economics and Mathematics from Barnard College and an MPP with a Graduate Certificate in Women’s Studies from George Washington University. Based in Minneapolis, she leverages her diverse expertise to advance equity and justice.
