The military community has its own structure, laws, and hierarchy, often causing confusion for civilian responders unfamiliar with military protocols and for military personnel unsure of civilian responses to sexual assault. In Colorado, nearly 40,000 active-duty members and 400,000 veterans live in civilian communities, and those affected by sexual violence may seek help from both civilian and military service providers. To effectively support military-connected survivors, it’s essential for responders to understand the military subculture, reporting options, and justice processes.
This session will discuss how to fully address the needs of and provide support for military-connected survivors of sexual assault with collaboration between military and civilian responders. This training will further enable responders from both communities to build relationships and provide comprehensive and consistent responses.
