True personal stories have a profound effect on us. It can transform public perceptions, attitudes, knowledge, and reactions towards other people and social issues and build empathy. Being an indispensable part of our lives, it is critical we take advantage of this culturally inclusive, innovative and accessible medium to engage our hard to reach communities in challenging conversations. This interactive webinar will explore how and why this culturally relevant tool can be used to shift the culture and create social change in our communities. By highlighting these innovative and inclusive approaches using examples, the participants will be able to further identify potential challenges and list strategies to overcome them
Dr. Meghna Bhat (she/her/hers) is an outspoken advocate against gender violence and social injustice with 17 years of extensive work experience in gender research, prevention education, community outreach, and partnerships in diverse settings. As a first-generation South Asian immigrant, survivor, published author, and an immersive storyteller, Dr. Bhat is passionate about using her lived experiences and her training in storytelling and media/film to create social change. In her role as a Project Manager at CALCASA, she loves working with our team in advancing statewide prevention and intervention efforts to end intergenerational cycles of gender violence. She is a proud foodie who loves cooking, enjoys drinking “pudina adrak [mint & ginger] chai”, and enjoys “chaat” [Indian street food].
