Yes on Proposition KK Campaign Launches Statewide Ballot Measure to Secure Critical Funding for Mental Health, Victim Services, and Violence Prevention
DENVER, CO – The Yes on Proposition KK Campaign hosted a press conference today to officially launch the statewide ballot measure to secure critical funding for mental health, victim
services, and violence prevention in Colorado. The press conference was held at 1:00 PM on the West Steps of the Capitol, with remarks from Majority Leader Monica Duran, Senator Tom Sullivan, representatives from Moms Demand Action, and other nonprofit leaders.
Proposition KK will appear on the ballot this November. If passed, the measure will provide essential mental health support for veterans, victims of violence, and at-risk youth by
implementing a modest excise tax on gun manufacturers and retailers. The initiative is a crucial step toward addressing the urgent need for mental health services, stabilizing victim support programs, and preventing future violence across the state.
Hospital Victim Advocate, Melissa Lien, shared: “I’ve come full circle to a career of helping other survivors. I’ve worked with people in their early teens to those in their mid-90s—people from privileged backgrounds, and people without basic necessities. People whose experiences have led them to the brink of suicide, people with terrible physical injuries, and emotional scars that will last a lifetime. Like me, they’ve lost work productivity and faced legal and long-term medical health care costs. Some have lost educational opportunities, and some have lost their homes. And worst of all, many have lost their lives. But survivors can be helped by mental health support services. We must treat this funding loss like the life-and-death crisis that it is. We cannot afford to lose the services that can help save lives. That’s why I hope you will join me in voting ‘Yes’ on Prop KK this November.”
Today’s event outlined how the Yes on Prop KK campaign plans to mobilize communities, advocate for stronger mental health care, and secure lasting safety measures for all Coloradans. Community members and media attended and learned more about how this initiative will impact Colorado’s most vulnerable populations. For more information, visit www.yesonpropkk.com
