2024 Legislative Update
Description:
CCASA works to ensure that state and federal legislation supports survivors of sexual violence, provides adequate funding for sexual assault service providers, holds offenders accountable, and strives to end sexual violence in our communities. Attendees will receive an update on recent legislative developments from the latest session of the Colorado Legislature. Key topics include expanded privacy protections for survivors of sexual assault, new safety policies for dating apps, survivor-centered definitions and standards for protection orders, and important updates to the Crime Victim Compensation Act, among other significant issues.
Presenters:
Elizabeth Newman, Public Policy Director, Colorado Coalition Against Sexual Assault – Elizabeth joined CCASA in August 2021 with nearly 15 years of experience working on politics, policy, and advocacy. Prior to joining CCASA, she served as the Policy and Projects Director at the San Francisco Department on the Status of Women. There she developed policy, advocated for state and local legislation, directed research, and provided technical assistance to further women’s economic opportunities, address gender-based violence, and foster the equitable treatment and advancement of women and girls.
Onnastasia Cole Outreach & Policy Associate – Onnastasia joined CCASA in August 2023 with over five years of professional writing experience. Before joining CCASA, she was a Policy Advocate with Young Invincibles, a nonprofit dedicated to amplifying the voices of young adults in the political process and expanding economic opportunity.
