Understanding Latin@ Realities: Promoting A Human Rights’ Framework to End Violence in Latin@ Communities
During this presentation, participants will be able to learn general cultural norms and values of Latin@s, their families and communities. Presenter will share lessons learned when working effectively with the Latin@ communities and will speak about their great diversity, resiliency and strength. There will be discussions and scenarios to further increase participants’ knowledge and skills when working with Latin@ survivors of gender-based violence and their families. Opportunities to examine the barriers experienced by Latin@ survivors when accessing mainstream victims’ services and come into contact with law enforcement and other systems will be provided. Additionally, presenters will share existing immigration remedies and resources to support undocumented Latin@ survivors of violence.
