Rural Project Manager

Email: itzel@ccasa.org

Areas of expertise:

  • working with Latine/x survivors/communities
  • working with rural communities

Itzel joined CCASA in December 2022 as the Rural Project Manager. Being an immigrant from a rural community gives her a unique insight into the challenges and obstacles the immigrant and underserved population endure. She is fortunate to have worked in the field since 2015, first as the Latin@ Outreach Coordinator through Violence Free Colorado in partnership with CCASA for the Promotora Project, and then for the last 6 years as the Bilingual Victim Advocate for Advocates Against Domestic Assault in Trinidad providing direct client services helping survivors find empowerment through housing support, group support, and the ability to learn basic life skills to thrive.

She started a women’s group named MUJER bringing information on HIV and Reproductive Rights, working closely with the Colorado Health Network, the CHIP program, and COLOR (Colorado Organization for Latina Opportunity and Reproductive Rights). She is the Representative of a small nonprofit organization named Grupo Azteca she founded in 2016 providing community education to the Latinx/Hispanic community while working closely with the immigrant rights organizations helping the community access services not otherwise obtainable. She has organized numerous events on Women’s rights, Healthy Relationships, Citizenship workshops, Women’s Empowerment, Healthcare, Life Insurance, Drivers’ Licenses, Know Your Rights, as well as giving live testimonies representing her community at the State Capitol. She believes the most important work she can do is to show up for those whose voices have been silenced and fight to have their needs heard.
